What Are Sleeping Disorders?

Common sleep disorders:

    • Enuresis, or bed-wetting, person sleeps so sound that they do not wake up to go to the bathroom, but the bladder stills empties
    • Nocturia: You frequently wake up to go the bathroom all night long.
    • Bruxism: grinding/clenching of the teeth while your sleeping
    • Parasomnias: Interruptive sleep patterns from night mares or sleep walking.
    • Rapid eye movement behavior disorder (RBD): Acting out violent or dramatic dreams while in REM sleep
    • Cataplexy: sudden muscle resulting in a collapse to the floor.
    • Restless legs syndrome (RLS): An irresistible urge to move legs to stop sudden pain or cramping
    • Somniphobia, a dread of going to sleep
    • Sleepwalking: when you walk, eat and dress while you are asleep.
    • Obstructive sleep apnea: Lack of deep sleep due to snoring
    • Delayed sleep phase syndrome (DSPS): cannot stay awake at social events
    • Hypopnea syndrome: Abnormally shallow breathing or slow respiratory rate while sleeping
    • Periodic limb movement disorder (PLMD): an involuntary movement of arms and/or legs during sleep, for example kicking the legs or a jerking movement.
    • Night terror, sleep terror disorder: waking up from  terrible or horrifying nightmare.
    • Narcolepsy: Excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) falling asleep spontaneously but unwillingly at inappropriate times.
    • Primary insomnia: difficulty in falling or staying asleep for no apparent reason..
    • Sleep paralysis a temporary paralysis of the body shortly before or after sleep.
    • Situational circadian rhythm sleep disorders: shift work sleep disorder, jet lag
