What Is Pediatric Sleep Disorder?

Sleep malfunctions among children are characterized by the term Pediatric Sleep Disorder. They affect children belonging to all the age groups. In most of the children, these disorders become the major cause of their unreasonable irritability, anxiety, poor performance in the academics et al. Many pediatric sleep disorders are similar in pattern and nature to the adult sleep disorders. One of the most common sleep malfunctions among children is sleep apnea. It affects infants, pre-adolescents and adolescents. In this disorder, the airway of the nose becomes obstructive. These obstructions are caused due to the enlargement of tonsils or the development of other physical abnormalities among children. The restricted air ways prevents smooth breathing and make the child gasp for breath while at sleep.

Sleep terrors are also commonly observed among children between the age group of 4-12 years. The reason for the occurrence of sleep terror is yet not known. However, according to various medical experts, the lack of sleep for consistent days triggers the emergence of sleep terrors. Insomnia and sleep walks also derive a non-interrupted sleep among children. Children suffering from any sleep deprivation problem often complain of headaches, sleepiness throughout the day, lack of concentration, extreme fear for night and anxieties.
