Sleep apnea is a problem where the airflow to the lungs is blocked due to extra grown tissues and other muscular problems. Sleep apnea can be very risky, if not treated properly in time. As we sleep, the inflow and outflow of air continuously takes place in our body and the brain delivers prior signals to the lungs and heart to function accordingly. This air absorbed by the lungs is the source of oxygen to our body. The air is purified and oxygen is mixed with blood and transported to the rest of the body.
The balance in the oxygen and carbon dioxide is very important for the proper functioning of the body parts. This balance is maintained only when the airflow is proper. During sleep apnea, this airflow gets improper and hence the balance gets disturbed. This can cause severe problems, as the imbalance occurs, the brain orders for a breath restart and this takes place as the tongue muscles spread open wide exiting all the carbon dioxide and giving back oxygen. It is tolerable if this takes place once a while. But when this happens to be a problem that occurs on regular intervals, oxygen imbalance occurs, creating many problems.
