Sleep apnea and obesity

Sleep apnea is an obstruction caused in the airflow during sleep within our body. Generally people with sleep apnea, do not know that they have this problem. This problem can end up dangerously if not treated properly in time. The person, who is suffering from sleep apnea, chokes and gasps air. This can be a real symptom for sleep apnea.

Snoring can also act as a symptom of sleep apnea. But, they don’t have to necessarily represent sleep apnea alone.

Common symptoms are silence during sleep due to block in the in-taken air, awakening to restart breathing, sweating during sleep, feeling tired during day hours due to improper sleep. There are two types of sleep apnea. They are Obstructive sleep Apnea and Central Sleep Apnea. They both vary in different terms, depending upon what happens.

Obesity or over weight is also one major fact. Obesity can in fact increase the sleep apnea problem. But it is not that all the people who suffer from sleep apnea are over weighted. Over weight can potentially increase the block of airflow due to excessive tissue growth and can be risky. It is better to avoid  obesity not only to avoid sleep apnea but also many other problems.
