What Is Insomnia? |
Insomnia is defined as the difficulty in sleeping for adequate hours at night despite the availability of enough time and space. In such a situation, adults often find initiating sleep a tough task. In few cases, adults easily get initiated to sleep; however, they face difficulty in maintaining a consistent sleep for long hours. Insomnia has drastic affects on the quality of your life as your body’s natural day time functioning gets literally impaired. Many doctors tout insomnia as one of the most common sleep disorders which affects each and every person at some point of life. In fact, it affects humans in all the ages including infant, adolescent, teenager and adult. Going by the common observation, the frequency of the re-occurrence of this condition increases with the age. This condition can be broadly divided into three main categories, depending on their duration- transient insomnia, short term insomnia and long term insomnia. Transient insomnia is the most common form which lasts for a period of one week. Short-term insomnia suppresses and then re-occurs till the period of three weeks. Long term insomnia lasts for more than three weeks. This form of insomnia is most serious and requires timely medications for its permanent cure.
