What Is Hypopnea Syndrome? |
A person suffers from a condition in which an individual experiences severe shallow breathing or a slow rate of airflow during sleep People who suffer from Hypopnea Syndrome are always very tired and the constant sleepiness is the major symptom. This person may also experience severe snoring including intermittent bouts of choking noises or very loud snores that have a long silence afterwards The causes of this sleeping disorder are: headache, the inability to concentrate, fatigue and becoming very irritable. There are a few hidden causes that you may want to look for like: being over weight or obese, they may be taking sedatives or suffer from alcohol abuse, the nasal passages may be deformed, age may play a factor, causes of respiratory problems or anything that might weaken the respiratory muscles and smoking. Because of these hidden causes Hypopnea Syndrome can be misdiagnosed. This is treatable by a ventilator in which air pressure is forced into the lungs called Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) or the last option is surgery. This surgery will involve repairing the soft palate, the uvula, tonsils, adenoids and tongue. Other types of surgery can be done that involve the adjustment of bone structures such as the mouth, nose, and facial bones.
