This is short term sleep medication that is by prescription only and is for the short term treatment of sleep disorder, with it being used for approximately 7 to 10 days. This is an oral medication and is classified in the sedative/ hypnotics category and acts in a way to calm the brain.

This is a medication that should be taken approximately 30 minutes prior to being able to sleep 8 hours without interruption. This is not the right medication for some people that have other conditions that require certain medications. Dalmane can cause a dependency when used longer than directed or in higher dosages and can cause withdrawal symptoms in these cases. These symptoms can include shakiness, dizziness, depression or anxiousness, muscle cramps, sweating, vomiting and in some cases seizures.

The side effects that are associated with this medication can be confusion, euphoria, tremors, restlessness, memory loss, sweating, mood changes, increased vivid dreams, changes in vision and fainting.
